How to fix drifting mouse problem on the Dell Latitude C610
Views: 998
  1. downloaded Synaptics Pointing Device drivers (zip file) for Windows 2000/XP v8.1.2 from http://www.synaptics.com/support/drive.cfm.
  2. Install the drivers (i.e. run setup.exe in the zip file)
  3. Restart your laptop and make sure NO external mouse is plugged into the laptop (Note: if an external mouse is plugged in you may not see the touch stick in the device list)
  4. Start Point Device Properties of the installed application and select Hardware->touch stick and then click the disable button to disable the touch stick, which is the root cause of the problem.
  5. After these steps, you can plug in your external mouse if want to. Both touch pad and mouse should work. The cursor drifting should stop.
