You can change the background music, but it is a bit complicated of a process. If you don't need music feedback and you dislike the music, you may wish to just turn the background music off (Options->Audio).
If you want to set custom music as music feedback for Dual Drive Xtreme, do the following:
1) Convert the music from CDs or .mp3 files to .ogg (Ogg Vorbis) format. There are plenty of free software utilities that can do this and you can search the internet for your choice of software. Here are instructions for a particular program "CD to MP3 Converter"
b) Open CD to MP3 converter.
c) If you wish to convert music from a CD: Click the "options" button, and switch the output format to .ogg. Press "OK" to close the options dialog, then press "Encode" to encode the entire CD, or select specific tracks if you prefer by checking or unchecking the boxes next to each track.
d) If you already have .mp3 files that you would like to convert to .ogg, in CD to MP3 converter go to File->MP3 to Wav, and choose an MP3 file to convert to wav. Next go to File->Wav to Ogg and select the wav file you created (from the MP3) to convert it to ogg.
2) Once you have your music in .ogg format, copy the music to Dual Drive Xtreme's music directory located in (by default):
C:

music
3) Open a mission file in a text editor, such as Wordpad (not Microsoft Word). To do this first open Wordpad from Start Menu->Program Files->Accessories, then open the LEVELNAME.mis (should end in .mis) file such as arctic_iceberg.mis from within Wordpad, by going to File->Open... in Wordpad, and navigating to the C:

missions and choosing the mission you want to open. If the file is just a bunch of symbols, and not text, you did not open the correct file (you opened the .ter instead of .mis file)
4) Near the top of the file you will see 'musicTrack = "~/data/sound/music/xxxxx.ogg"'. Change the current file name (xxxxxx.ogg) to your new filename, such as 'musicTrack = "~/data/sound/music/YOURNEWFILE.ogg"'
5) If you make other accidental changes to the mission file (e.g. arctic_iceberg.mis) you should reinstall Dual Drive Xtreme to fix any problems.
