Infra-low frequency neurofeedback in application to Tourette syndrome and other tic disorders: A clinical case series

This is a retrospective outcome study that surveys the results of obtained with 100 successive clinical cases of tic disorders over the course of several years. The report covers the clinical experience when conventional medical treatment for Tourette Syndrome is followed by and complemented with ILF neurofeedback. This means that the neurofeedback was performed with patients who were already medicated (in a hospital setting) before being referred for neurofeedback. Therefore, the client population consists largely of those for whom medical remedies were unavailing, insufficient, or problematic. The outcomes for 100 consecutive, already medicated patients are surveyed. Results in terms of percent improvement are shown in a rank-ordered fashion in the Figure. Median improvement in symptom status was 45%, with 90% of the population improving by a minimum of 35%.

ABSTRACT
This study presents a clinical treatment regime for the treatment of tic manifestation, both simple and complex. The response of a case of simple tic and a case of complex tic (Gilles de la Tourette's syndrome) to EEG sensorimotor rhythm biofeedback training are presented. Specifically, the simple and the complex tic, both of long duration, were eliminated via this EEG biofeedback training procedure.
